Cultural Heritage Pre-wedding And Love Story Of Eduabasi And Kido

THEIR LOVE STORY

It was the last quarter of 2011. I had recently completed my first degree and just relocated to Edinburgh for my Master’s program. It was a small town, and Edinburgh Tabernacle came highly recommended by my uncle who lived in the town. It was a small church in a small town, so everyone knew everyone. It was one big happy family, so as you would imagine, I couldn’t stay unknown for too long. I liked the people at Edinburgh Tabernacle. They were very kind, and warmed up to me. They made me feel at home and welcome to their family. It wasn’t at all a difficult decision to continue worshipping at the church.

As time went on, I noticed a guy who was doing a very poor job of stealing glances at me. Poor because I kept on catching him. I wondered when he would finally grow the nerve to say something more than “hello and hi”.
Fast forward to January 2012. As was customary, the church organized a breakfast session for its members who were still single to connect. I woke up that morning contemplating whether or not to go, as I felt, at the time, that a lot of such events were cliché. I decided to go since it would afford me the opportunity to get to know the other members better, besides I was still fairly new in the city and could do with a few more friends.

On arriving, a guy, (who turned out to be very good friends with the “glancer” J) beaconed on me to please join their table (little did I know he was just an errand boyJ). I obliged him and joined their table. He immediately initiated a conversation, we got talking and shortly after, along came Kido. It appeared the empty sit on my other side had be carefully reserved for him (a well mapped out plan, I must admit).

As soon as he settled in, he wasted no time at all, turned to me and said “Hi, my name is Kido and you are the only reason I’m here for this breakfast session today”. I was so shy and stunned at how “straight-to-the-point” he was (egbami o). He did a very good job of making sure I was comfortable and I had everything I wanted from the buffet. In typical “Naija babe” style, I decided to maximize this rare opportunity. I made him go to the buffet point over three times, as I kept changing my order and requesting for something slightly different each time. For some reason he was doing it joyfully (what could I say, the guy was in love. Lol). After the breakfast session we exchanged numbers. And that was it.
Kido never wanted to be “friend-zoned” (Lol), so he was very direct with his intentions, and never ceased to reiterate after every long conversation, in his words, “I want you to be my girlfriend, I’m not trying to be your friend or your church brother ooo”. After much persistence, I decided to give it a try and here we are now. The rest is history.

THE PROPOSAL

He got in contact with two of my colleagues at work who he knows am so fond of and planned the proposal secretly with them. It was this day after work, I was literally forced by my colleagues to come along for dinner, little did I know I was going for my proposal. We got to the restaurant and while talking and laughing, the waiter dropped a cake in front of me and on top of the cake was a beautiful ring written please will you marry me? I was so shy, on turning back I saw him on one knee, one of my shyest moments as everyone in the restaurant was aware of the ploy and so they are all watching expectantly (…like some Indian soap opera).
It didn’t end there, got home and saw my house decorated with art crafted memories and moments we have shared together, it was a very emotional moment for me. It has been an amazing four years since I knew this MAN, one of the best decisions I have taken in life was the day I decided to give  this relationship a try, he is super loving, caring and extremely selfless, he will literally give up anything to make me am happy. I am Super Duper excited to be working down the aisle with this handsome young man and have prayerfully decided to spend the rest of my life with him. I look forward to a Blissful home.

The couple decided to go cultural for their pre-wedding, enjoy pictures from their Ibibio culture  pre-wedding shoot

Anayo And Pamela's Engagement Wedding

 THE PROPOSAL

I have been so excited and filled with joy since I met him, there has always been something about him I still can’t figure out that has always made the bond so strong and I have always looked forward to spending time with him.
He’s humble qualities melts my heart, there has never been a dull moment with him, his sense of humour I cherish so much, as the days passed by, the feeling became stronger and I kept looking forward to when he would pop the question.
For some funny reasons, he kept asking me if I had any costume ring I no longer use then I suspected he had something up his sleeves, I told him I had one but had not worn it in the last 2 years. I pulled it out from the case and showed him then slipped it back.
I enquired from him, the reason he asked for the costume ring and he gave me a funny response that he needed to use it in helping out with his nephew’s art assignment….I refused to believe this response but actually played along with him. I became very expectant as I already had a clue from the question he asked. I think he knew I was expectant and he further delayed for months… at some point I gave up and just decided to enjoy the relationship.

On a faithful Sunday morning, I got a call from him that he was coming to take me karting after service and that he would be coming with his brothers and some friends. In excitement I looked forward to it. He came as promised and we all went karting, we really had a lot of fun and decided to settle down for a meal in the restaurant. I observed he was always leaving in between meals to whisper to the waiter, and proposal never crossed my mind. After the meal, we chatted for some time and he said was ready to drop me off at home I stood up with my bag, then his younger brother said he made a special other for everyone….he beckoned to the waiter to bring the order, the waiter brought the order and placed it right in front of me, a song came up from the speakers “Cheerleader “by OMI…. I opened the plate and saw the ring on another plate with an inscription “will you marry me” he went on one knee and popped the question, after he slipped the ring into my finger, he brought out the costume ring I showed him earlier and gave me back.
It was an awesome experience and I am very grateful to GOD for this journey he’s starting with us.
